Web Usability

Web usability team of the HCI Group has been active in studying human-web interaction and ways to support the design of accessible, findable, usable and aesthetically appealing web sites. Special emphasis has been placed in producing methodologies and tools which are freely distributed in an effort to bridge the gap between research and practice.

Prominent results of the activity of this team include:

   Tools

  • ActivityLens: tool to support the video analysis of user testing studies investigating userʼs experience with web sites.

  • AutoCardSorter: automated tool to support the design of web sitesʼ information architecture.

  • ISEtool: semi-automated tool to support the evaluation of the semantic appropriateness of hyperlinksʼ descriptions.

  • TATtool: hierarchical task analysis tool to support the requirement analysis phase of web site design

  • WebColorPicker: tool to support the selection of an appropriate site color scheme based on its emotional impact.

   Projects

  • DEMETRA: HCI consultancy in the design of the web site and an interactive tool that supports the assessment of pesticides toxicity.

  • PYTHAGORAS II: research project investigating predictive models of information seeking behavior in the World Wide Web.

  • QALIBRA: HCI consultancy in the design of the web site and an interactive tool that supports the assessment of the beneficial and adverse effects of foods.

  • Card sorting studies to design or evaluate the information architecture of web sites.

  • Eye-tracking studies investigating attractiveness of web sites and users' information seeking behavior.

  • Remote usability evaluation of web sites.
