Capture Reconstruct - PLAY (CR-PLAY)
In CR-PLAY we propose an innovative mixed pipeline for videogames development which will drastically reduce both time and expenses involved in the creation of assets, and make high quality realistic contents accessible even to small game developers. Game developers will be able to capture and reconstruct houses, buildings, trees and other real life elements by simply taking a few sequences of photos and videos to be processed by the semi-automatic software created in the project and integrated with traditional assets made of polygons and textures. In particular our research group is responsible for elicitating user requirement and for the definition and implementation of an evaluation plan.
The HCI Group activities are related to the end-user requirements analysis, the elaboration of an evaluation plan and the implementation of user studies based on the user centered design (UCD) methodology adopted by CR-PLAY.

The INTER-SOCIAL project aims at exploring social networking to enhance the competitiveness of SMEs in the region. Social networks offer new means and forums for world-wide product promotion as well as huge repositories of data for advanced market analysis and trend identification. In particular, the project aims at promoting advanced new technologies as related to the use of social networking to both (a) improve the web presence of SMEs and (b) use information provided by such sites for targeting advertisement and adaptive service provision.

Project Corporate

A web portal will be promptly set up at UPAT, for communication and exchange of information in all project. Its design and implementation will start upon a potential invitation of the proposal to negotiations. The portal will be continuously upgraded during the project and maintained after its end. It will support controlled access of various groups of partners (e.g., Committee members, WP leaders and teams, etc.) to strictly administrative, financial or confidential information, or to project results considered immature for public release. To address several user categories with different needs and access levels, the portal will provide personalised access to each user category with highest level of encryption protocols.

Web Science Net is a network of research laboratories of the University of Patras coordinated by Profs N. Avouris and O. Koufopavlou in the area of web science and technology.
It started in 2009 and has already had some activities, like bilateral meetings and a day workshop in July 2010.
More than 20 faculty members of various departments of the University participate in the network.

HP Innovation in Education Project started: October 2009

The University of Patras HCI Group received a grant, that included a number of touchscreen HP laptops, in the frame of the project HP Innovation in Education, In the frame of this project, a new lab activity has been designed around these laptops (HP EliteBook) in October 2009. The new lab activity involves experimentation by students of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department with Fitts's law (prediction of pointing and tunel steering tasks) using four alternative pointing devices of the laptoop (mouse, pen, joystick, touch pad). This activity involves an individual and a collaborative phase spanning two weeks. A report on this new experience is in preparation.

BeNatural - Support for environmentaly informed consumer decisions

BeNatural (more info at www.benatural.gr ) is an idea of students of our department who worked in the HCI lab and developed a prototype that supports consumer decisions relating to environmental impact of products purchased.

QALIBRA - Quality of life - integrated benefit and risk analysis

QALIBRA (Quality of life - integrated benefit and risk analysis) is a Specific Targeted Research Project coordinated by Icelandic Fisheries Laboratories and supported by the European Commission's 6th Framework Programme, contract number FOOD-CT-2006-022957.

The project began April 1st 2006 and will run until 2009.
