K. Kotorenis and N. Avouris presented a short paper/ poster at CHI 2026 conference in Barcelona, entitled “From Postures to Platforms: OS Design Guidelines for Touchscreen Laptops”. In this paper, a mixed-methods study is reported that resulted in identifying a set of arm postures that have been used by the participants to fight fatigue, stabilize the screen, and switch from touch to keyboard/trackpad for precision and compatibility. The findings were transferred into operating-system design guidelines that facilitate reach-aware UI placement, imprecision-tolerant controls, and gesture consistency with mobile touch conventions, without degrading non-touch input.
