CyberAspis

The CyberAspis research project (https://cyberaspis.upatras.gr/), coordinated by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Patras, aims to develop Artificial Intelligence technologies for the real-time detection of voice phishing (vishing) attacks, cyberbullying, and online harassment.

The project addresses a rapidly growing societal challenge with significant economic and psychological consequences for citizens, particularly older adults and other vulnerable population groups. By leveraging state-of-the-art AI technologies, CyberAspis seeks to enhance digital safety and strengthen public trust in digital communications.

The project has attracted significant national media attention, highlighting the impact of university research in addressing emerging cybersecurity threats. It has been featured in leading Greek newspapers and television networks, including:

Scientific Evidence

Kosmopoulos D., Thomopoulos G., Fidas C., An Efficient and Explainable Framework for the Detection of Voice Phishing Attacks (under publication).

The paper presents an efficient and explainable framework for the real-time detection of voice phishing attacks based on Large Language Models (LLMs) and Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) techniques, demonstrating how trustworthy AI can support the protection of citizens against increasingly sophisticated telephone fraud.

Horizon EU project

CoEvolution: A Comprehensive Trustworthy Framework for Connected Machine Learning and Secure Interconnected AI Solutions

CoEvolution is funded by the European Commission (HORIZON-CL3-2023-CS-01-03). The mission of the project is to introduce a new STR (Security, Trust, and Robustness) paradigm based on Bills-of-Materials, offering a unified approach to describing AI models in supply chains, ensuring STR compliance with EU directives on trust, fairness, data governance, and GDPR guidelines.
